Spicy Sauce Dried Anchovies
Spicy Sauce Dried Anchovies is a must have condiment in most Malaysian homes. The cleaned and dried anchovies are carefully sauteed in chilli paste and shallots along with sugar and salt for taste. The ultimate result is that you get a condiment that is flavourful with sweetness, spiciness and crunchiness. This condiment adds an extra punch to all meals with its great umami flavour.
Let’s transform this Spicy Sauce Dried Anchovies into a quick and easy sambal ikan bilis (fried dry anchovies in spicy sauce) with tofu.
Ingredients:
- 1 Pack Spicy Sauce Dried Anchovies (Use Up To Your Discretion And Quantity Needed. For This Recipe You Need 1 Cup)
- Tomato Ketchup (Again It Is Up To Your Discretion. If You Want It More Saucy, Then Increase The Quantity. For This Recipe You Need 1/2 Cup)
- 1 Firm Tofu (Washed And Diced In Bite Size Pieces)
- Oil
- Fresh Red Chillies (Optional)
- Water (Optional)
- Sugar And Salt (Optional)
Method:
- Pour some oil in a hot pan. Pan fry the tofu on all sides till well done. Drain it on a paper towel.
- In the same pan you sauteed the tofu, drop in the Spicy Sauce Dried Anchovies. Give a good mix.
- Add tomato ketchup and saute for a few minutes until the anchovies soften a bit but there would still be a crunch.
- Add some fresh red chillies if you want more heat.
- Finally add the sauteed tofu and let it blend well with the sauce.
- If you find the sauce a bit too thick, you can add more ketchup or water to thin the sauce.
- No necessity to cook for long as most ingredients are already cooked.
- Serve this dish with plain white rice, fried rice and even glutinous rice.
- To bring it to another level, just add this dish to cooked white rice and throw in some frozen mix vegetables. Stir fry for a minute or 2 and you got spicy anchovies fried rice.
- You have just created something new from some things that you have in your pantry and refrigerator.
