More Infromation: Sambal belacan segara is a traditional Malaysian condiment made from belacan (shrimp paste), chillies, lime juice, and other seasonings. It has a spicy, savoury, and slightly sour taste that is perfect for adding a punch of flavour to any dish.
Traditionally, sambal belacan is used as a dipping sauce for fresh vegetables, grilled meats, and seafood. It can also be used as a marinade for meats or added to stir-fries, soups, and stews for added flavour.
For those looking to try sambal belacan in a recipe, it pairs well with many dishes such as fried rice, noodles, and curries. One popular dish in Malaysia is sambal belacan udang (shrimp with sambal belacan), which features succulent shrimp coated in the spicy sauce.
To make sambal belacan at home, simply mix together crushed belacan, chopped chillies, lime juice, sugar, and salt. The mixture can be ground into a paste or left chunky, depending on personal preference. It can be stored in the fridge for up to a week and brought out whenever an extra kick of flavour is needed.
Salmah Mohamed –
This packet contains the ground spices for sambal belacan, so all you need is to buy a jar of fresh ground chillis (can buy this from asian grocery stores) and mix it with a bit of water. I know sambal belacan isn’t hard to make, but when you don’t have time, this is really good in a pinch! I’ve even had it with fish and chips… yummy! (don’t knock it till you try it!)
